Kevin was standing in the middle of the magnificently decorated ballroom in the Room On Main wedding venue. The flickering lights of the big city are seen through the picturesque windows; and competing with them defiantly gleaming, were the instruments of the live band. Suddenly it got quiet, and hundreds of eyes fixed on him, waiting.
He regaled with a story about their family trip to New Orleans. What was different about this family trip is that this time Whitney invited some guy named Mitch to join them. In the middle of the trip she had to go back to Dallas because of her work (she works at the hospital) and, I am assuming, she took their car to do that. Logistics isn’t important, the point of the story is that Mitch had to come back to Dallas with Whitney’s family in the same car. And being stuck in the same car with someone’s else family for few hours is tough! Imagine that awkward silence? However… after that trip Whitney’s family just knew – he was The One for Whitney! Probably even before he realized it himself!
All the guests laughed, and Whitney and Mitch, glancing at each other, were giggling. Kevin looked at Whitney. She stood across from him, dressed in a snow-white dress, holding a glass of champagne in one hand and Mitch’s hand in the other. She was so happy! He raised his champagne glass to his baby girl, his daughter:
– To the bride and groom!
Everyone cheered! Whitney then ran through the ballroom, hugged him and tears glistened in both their eyes. A lump rolled up in my throat, in that moment I was so touched witnessing a daughter and a father standing there in the middle of the room, holding each other’s hands.
Then it was a time for Whitney and Mitch to speak. They thanked everyone for coming to their wedding, they thanked their parents for helping with the wedding, they thanked Kathy their wedding planner, they thanked their band, their florist, and us too, the photographers. The outpouring was so incredibly sweet! In these moments I am reminded once more why I love these weddings so much!
So it’s my turn now! Whitney and Mitch, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for the privilege to capture these short moments of you as bride and groom, and the very first moments of you as a husband and wife! Your love for each other shines in everything you’re doing together, and I wish you all the best in your journey through life together!
